The Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza is a museum of ancient and modern art, mainly panintings. Its existence owes to the agreement of lease (1988) and to the later acquisition, on the part of the Spanish Government (July, 1993), of a wide selection of the collection assembled by the family Thyssen-Bornemisza along two generations.
This private collection had multiple foreign absent artists of the Spanish art galleries, from the 13th century (Duccio) up to still alive. Because of that, it was turning out to be the perfect complement for both principal museums of Madrid, El Museo del Prado y el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Reina Sofía. All together form the so called Paseo del arte. The Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza leads with them the so called Triangle of the Art, perhaps the most important pictorial concentration of Europe.
